"The first surgeon to perform keyhole repair of a ruptured aortic aneurysm in a District General Hospital."
Mr Sabu Jacob was appointed Consultant General Surgeon specialising in vascular and laparoscopic surgery at Barking, Havering & Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust in 1999. His NHS clinics are based at King George Hospital, where he has practiced for over a decade.
Mr Jacob has extensive experience in vascular surgery — both venous and arterial — performing a variety of procedures including lower limb bypass surgery, carotid endarterectomy, and angioplasties in the private sector.
He has a special interest in varicose vein surgery, having introduced the Venefit™ procedure (radiofrequency ablation) and performed over 2,000 such procedures. He also introduced the laparoscopic extraperitoneal hernia repair (TEP) at BHRUT, winning first prize at the European Endoscopic Surgeons Conference in 2004.
For patients with spider and thread veins, Mr Jacob offers thermal coagulation (VeinWave™) and injection sclerotherapy. He also performs minimally invasive thoracoscopic sympathectomy for hyperhidrosis, as well as Botox injections.
